Reality is Ripped

Imagine if you looked up and realized that some of the pixels had burned out.

Disguising your gait

Gait analysis is seriously real. The drones use it to decide who to kill. They can do gait analysis from satellites.  This article is from 2008!

Googlears
There is a thing outside my window that makes this sound "eeep" "eeep"
It sounds like a birdcall, but it's VERY high and always one short note.  It doesn't call from a branch like most birds, it flies around going "eeep" "eeep"
I think it's a bat.

I want to know what it is.

Shouldn't there be an app for that?

ARTIFICIAL SENSES

Why should we be limited to the spectrum we're born with?

Post-Apocalypse, everyone will want to own a geiger counter to see if the fallout is going to get them. Why in the world can't we put a geiger patch on each of our shoulders and be hypnotized into believing that we have Geiger ears on our shoulders that can "hear" radioactivity.

Implant them young enough and the brain would wire itself to accept the input from the sensors are part of "the senses."

This guy is kinda doing that

Math needs a story

For a lot of people math formulae are abstract and unconnected. They don't fit into a context, they aren't part of a familiar landscape, there isn't a story about them.

Example: If you plug x's and y's into a quadratic equation, you'll map a parabola.  So you learn what a quadratic equation is, and you learn what a parabola is, and you see a million ways to relate them. But you're left with questions. What is it for?  What problem does this solve? Where are we ever likely to use it again, why is the quadratic formula important and not the Triadic or quintrassic formulas? Why is this interesting? Who found it and what were they looking for?

Lead paint tester

NYReview has an interesting article about lead paint and how it is STILL poisoning a million poor kids and making them retarded. No joke. http://www.nybooks.com/articles/archives/2013/mar/21/lead-poisoning-ignored-scandal/

Okay, kind of funny but...
