Reality is Ripped

Imagine if you looked up and realized that some of the pixels had burned out.

You'd be like "Fuck me, I'm in the Matrix." Right?

Even if it was just a section of the sky, it would be enough to scare the bejebus out of you. The apocalypse? Game over? The warranty on our sky has expired? WTF.

Imagine if you looked up and saw this (without the watermark)

or this

OMFG the sky is ripped!!!!

It would be an epic prank, of war of the worlds dimensions.People would be in the streets screaming, looting, burning their houses and climbing up mountaintops, killing themselves.

So.... how do we do it?

  • A huge screen, dozens of acres square, on a thin film, floated on clear weather balloons up to, like 30,000 feet?  Perhaps just 12 pixels by 12 pixels, but each pixel is an acre square.
  •  Maybe just a painting like the studios use for backdrops. Since it's the flickering on and off that will make it really scary and convincing, maybe we can use lights on the ground or on the balloons to change the illumination
  • Projecting onto the Ionosphere might work?  Radio signals bounce off it. Darpa is doing something dark with  it, like exciting it to change the weather or something. Doesn't it suck up the solar wind and make the northern lights?  So if we could just make a patch of the sky fuzz out for a couple of hours....
  • An Alternative would be pixelated clouds. That seems totally doable. Like the head in the crystal ball in  the haunted mansion. Just project it and our mind fills in the 3d effect. To make the sharp corners you project the blue color that matches the sky.

I suppose generating the candlepower to outshine the sun might be an issue. We'll have to think about that one.
